Oak Tarot

by Dirk Gillabel

late 1980’s (photographic), re-issued 2003 (printed and laminated)

A young oak tree was growing in the garden. Dirk had planted an acorn and it was a couple of years old when he cut it and made some tools from the stem. One piece of the stem he cut into 22 slices and painted the Oak Tarot on on the slices. It is one of his tarot decks painted purely by intuition. Dirk had to keep it simple because of the limited surface (2″, or 5 cm, in diameter).
